Welch School of Piano Studio Policies

It is the goal of the Welch School of Piano to offer its students the highest quality music instruction as possible. The first step in achieving this goal is for the student and the parent/guardian to understand the school’s policies and expectations. With agreeing to these simple terms, the students can begin their exciting musical journey.

Lessons

Private Lessons: One 30 minute weekly lesson for students ages 3-17

Teaching Session: The studio follows the local public school schedule and observes the following breaks: Labor Day, Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, and Spring Break.

Missed Lessons: There will be NO make-ups for missed lessons due to weather, illness, sports, etc. Missed assignments will be mailed. Excused lessons are for any medical emergency, accident, or death in the family. Should the teacher miss a lesson, a credit will be given on the following statement.

Practice & Performance

Daily practice is the key to ensure consistent progress! The studio recommends the following practice schedule:

3-5 years: 10 minutes a day/5 days a week

5-7 years: 15 minutes a day/5 days a week

8-10 years: 30 minutes a day/5 days a week

11-14 years: 45 minutes a day/5 days a week

15+ years: 60 minutes a day/5 days a week

Parents and students are jointly responsible for meeting practice requirements.

Performance is essential for motivation, confidence, and goal achievement. The studio offers 2 yearly performances: a winter recital and a spring recital. Attendance is required for these performances. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in local, state, and national music festivals and competitions through the Nashville Area Music Teachers Association, the Tennessee Music Teachers Association, the Music Teachers National Association, and the Music and Arts Guild.

Tuition, Fees, and Payment Schedule

Tuition may be paid each week or in monthly installments. There is a discount for those who choose to pay monthly.

A non-refundable enrollment fee of $30 per student is due upon enrollment. This fee covers the cost of student notebooks, group materials, and studio recitals.

Students will need to purchase method books and  music on occasion throughout the year.  Books may be purchased from the studio. Additional event fees may be required for festivals, competitions and other performance events.

Invoices will be emailed prior to the first week of each month with a reminder of current tuition charges, as well as any additional material or event fees.

Students should plan to commit to lessons for the full school year.  If unforeseen circumstances require a student to terminate lessons mid-year, one month’s paid notice is required to end lessons.
